Biography - Opera

Alison was born in Taunton, Somerset and graduated in drama before studying singing at the Royal Northern and Royal College of Music (Opera Course).  She was a winner of the AsLiCo Young European Opera Singers' Competition and a finalist in the Kathleen Ferrier Awards.

In 2021 Alison sang Kabanicha (Katya Kabanova) for Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Buttercup (HMS Pinafore) for English National Opera, and covered Kostelnička (Jenufa) singing the role at the pre-generale and piano dress rehearsal for the Royal Opera House.  She recently covered Kostelnička for WNO and will return to the ROH covering Jezibaba (Rusalka) in 2023.

 
Alison has given critically acclaimed performances of a number of Wagnerian roles with Longborough Festival Opera  including Fricka (Die Walküre and Das Rheingold), Waltraute (Götterdämmerung) and Venus (Tannhaüser). She also sang Siegrüne under Sir Mark Elder with the Halle Orchestra and this was broadcast on Radio 3 and released on CD. 

For Opera North she has played Matilda in Errolyn Wallen's Cautionary Tales and for ENO  Giraffe in Early Earth Operas,  as well as covering Judith (Bluebeard's Castle),  Amneris (Aida) Herodias in Salome, and Katisha (Mikado).  For the Royal Opera House she has covered The Countess in The Queen of Spades and Kabanicha in Katya Kabanova.  She has also covered Azucena (Il Trovatore), Geneviève (Pelleas et Melisande) and Judit (Bluebeard's Castle) for Scottish Opera and returned in 2018 to sing the role of Madame Larina in Eugene Onegin and this was also broadcast on Radio 3.

Other roles include Brangäne in excerpts from Tristan und Isolde under David Syrus in concert, Marcellina in The Marriage of Figaro for West Green House Festival and Maddalena (Rigoletto) for Devon Opera.

She has also sung Charlotte (Werther), Suzuki (Madama Butterfly), Dorabella (Cosi Fan Tutte), The Secretary (The Consul) for Opera Holland Park; Kate Pinkerton (Madam Butterfy) and Mercedes (Carmen) for Raymond Gubbay at the Royal Albert Hall; Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni) in Italian opera houses including Como, Pisa and Lucca, Diamantina (Gluck's L'Isola di Merlino) - Como, Mantova and Brescia, Dorisbe (Galuppi's Gustavo I Re di Svezia) at Montelpuciano, Diana (La Calisto) at Batignano; Ramise (Arminio) and Giulia (Alessandro Severo) London Handel Festival; Lucilla (La Scala di Seta) Wexford Festival Scenes; Romeo (I Capuleti e I Montecchi) pre-generale for Opera de Montpellier; Delilah (Samson and Delilah) at the Brangwyn Hall; Suzuki (Clonter Opera, Mid Wales Opera and Co-Opera Ireland); Rosina (Barber of Seville), Cherubino (Marriage of Figaro) and Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni) for Garden Opera; Mother in world premiere of The Juniper Tree (Watkins) Almeida Opera and Munich Biennale; Servant (Ion by Param Vir) for Music Theatre Wales at Strasbourg, Berlin and Linbury ROH; Bessie (Mahagonny Songspiel) The Opera Group; Dangeville (Adriana Lecouvreur) Chelsea Opera at the QEH.
